What's in a Name? The Story Behind Samzen

Every meaningful journey begins with a name.

Before there was Samzen...

There was Dew You.

When we first began dreaming about a name for the brand, I kept coming back to the image of morning dew.

There's something magical about those quiet moments just before the world fully wakes.

Fresh dew resting on leaves.

The earth after a gentle rain.

Everything feels renewed.

That was exactly how I wanted people to feel after using my skincare.

Refreshed.

Replenished.

Alive.

The name Dew You captured that feeling perfectly.

My daughter, Christina, brought the idea to life with an incredibly clever logo. She transformed the letter "E" into a delicate drop of botanical oil, quietly hinting that our formulations were crafted with pure essential oils.

I loved it.

But as I researched the marketplace, I discovered something disappointing.

There were countless businesses using the name Dew You, or slight variations of it, representing products and philosophies that had nothing to do with what I was creating.

That was the moment everything changed.

I realized that if I was going to spend years perfecting these formulations, building a philosophy, and pouring my heart into every jar and bottle...

I couldn't build it on a name that belonged to everyone.

It needed to be unmistakably its own.

I wanted a name that could grow with the company for decades.

Something timeless.

Something meaningful.

Something that reflected not only what we create...

But why we create it.

Long before there was a finished logo, I had already begun signing everything with my own signature. I wanted every creation to feel personal, handcrafted, and intentional. That signature became the very first expression of what would eventually become the Samzen brand.

Then, one day, the right name found me.

For as long as I can remember, people have called me Sam.

Those are my initials.

Even after marrying my husband, Doug, I kept my initials, so "Sam" remained part of who I was.

Over the years, creating skincare became more than a passion.

It became my own form of peace.

The quiet ritual of researching botanicals.
